It’s October and still warm enough to sit outside with a good read. Yet cool enough to start scheming up hearty meals. You will find good reads and cook books at Arugula Books on October 7 at the Providence Flea.
I am now reading an outstanding biography of Charles Dickens by Claire Tomalin. A page turner. I am a fan of the novels of Charles Dickens and am enjoying learning more about him. He allows us to escape because his novels are entertaining and lively. He roots us in reality and draws us into the lives and feelings of characters who struggle with housing, employment, educational disparity, prejudice. He introduces us to heroes, villains, actors, street cleaners, lawyers, teachers, artists, and shopkeepers. Rich, poor, and everything in between. He opens doors to a wide range of people so I can put myself in their shoes. He makes me laugh. He makes me cry. I cling to Dickens these days.
He is still relevant and getting more so by the day–reasons to laugh & cry.
