The weather forecast is often wrong. Under that premise, I prepare for tomorrow’s Flea and hope the showers come later than expected. Why? Because Arugula Books has had a bumper crop of new books to share with you, dear readers. Seasonal offerings like those related to baseball and gardening. Also cooking, essays, children’s books, and ever more fiction and poetry. Plus older editions sure to charm the collectors out there. Unless you hear otherwise, Arugula Books will be at the Providence Flea, Sunday June 30 10:00-4:00.
The Roses by Mary Oliver
From American Primitive
One day in summer
when everything
has already been more than enough
the wild beds start
exploding open along the berm
of the sea; day after day
you sit near them; day after day
the honey keeps on coming
in the red cups and the bees
like amber drops roll
in the petals: there is no end,
believe me! to the inventions of summer,
to the happiness your body
is willing to bear.
Thanks for the Mary Oliver poem–and stay dry this weekend!
